Sustainability

At Essex, seeking sustainable practices goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to maintaining a high level of transparency in what we do, and we’re always searching for new ways to better utilize our current resources.

Sustainability at the forefront

Sustainable measures are at the core of what we do, and our many strategic methods of production highlight our dedication to caring for the planet. Our breeding program is mindful of what we take from the earth, opting for a traceable and sustainable policy to cultivate mint. Our commitment to sustainability extends to our upcycled products, which includes a range of oils that have been distilled from unconventional leaf material and oils reclaimed from the distillation process.

A conscious approach

By focusing on all natural, high-yield hybrids, we’re able to reduce land-use impact and produce less CO2 emissions compared to conventional US and Indian mint. In addition, through smart and efficient optimization, our mint requires less water, fertilizers and pesticides per kilogram of oil produced.

A shared sustainable mindset

Our growers are as committed to sustainable agricultural practices as we are. One such method is through the composting of mint hay after distillation. This helps to reduce waste, provide nutrients for the soil and improve water retention, which minimizes the need for irrigation. Good for the soil, good for us.

A positive reach

At Essex, our breeding program has the advantage of helping farmers have more flexibility in how they manage their land. Through our strategic program, farmers may increase their mint oil production on current acreage,

anticipate longer productivity of existing mint fields and even expand to areas that aren’t suitable for conventional mint.
